Press Release

DB Station&Service AG implements cutting-edge business intelligence to improve control of business operations across 5,400 stations

Thursday, 04 April 2019 - Bad Homburg, Germany

Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Station&Service AG has introduced a new Business Intelligence operating control process for its Operations division, based on the Board platform.

The business develops and operates Deutsche Bahn's passenger train stations nationwide, and now uses Board to support a strategic process aimed at taking the company further into the digital future.

Board International, a leading software provider of an all-in-one decision-making platform that unifies Business Intelligence, Performance Management, and Advanced Analytics, has announced that Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Station&Service AG has introduced a new BI operating control process for its Operations division, based on the Board platform. This is intended to further improve internal processes, speed, and ultimately the quality of end-user services.

Balanced Scorecard augmented with an Early Warning System:
For the internal control and optimization of financial and qualitative aspects, the Operations division of DB Station&Service AG has developed a new control logic that is digitally mapped into the Board BI solution in the form of a balanced scorecard. Using the dashboards from this BI solution, Operations Managers can efficiently control forward-looking operations processes for 5,400 stations, both centrally and locally. A traffic light system immediately shows where action is needed. Behind the balanced scorecard, the system makes background calculations with both predictions and historical values that come from many data sources and converge in Board, in both the data architecture and the front-end.

Digital Transformation with Future Foresight:
"The challenge was complex due to its intricacy: in everyday life, the need to act has to come from the interplay of factors such as data management, front-end, strategic control, and organizational responsibilities," explains Christoph Reichelt, Head of Operations Policy, Planning, and Control at DB Station&Service. "Our one strategic goal for this project was to have everything at a glance in one system, without overloading the user. This is the only way we could improve the quality and speed of our management system and create a completely new user experience."

Board supports this strategic management with dynamic end-to-end Business Intelligence.  Not only is data provided in a dashboard, but users can also update related processes or workflows themselves locally, including the definition and status of key measures and constraints. In the next stage of the project they will be able to develop new areas of the application, such as bringing in cost centers and operational planning or rolling forecasts.

We are also pleased to announce that Christoph Reichelt, Head of Principles, Planning and Control Operations at DB Station&Service AG, will be a keynote speaker at BoardVille 2019, the Board global user conference.
