How Do You Separate Probabilistic AI from Deterministic Planning?

LLMs can explain the numbers, but they’re not always reliable at calculating them. In this video, discover how Board combines the creativity and reasoning of AI with the accuracy of its deterministic calculation engine—ensuring that insights are grounded in real data, not generated guesses.

  1. LLMs are not very good at doing math.

  2. They are good at constructing the narrative around it.

  3. But for the calculation, we've always wanted to ground it into the reality of the

  4. data, and at the same time, we didn't want to give those LLM access to the entire

  5. set of raw data in Board because it would be also cost-wise prohibitive.

  6. They would use a million tokens, billions of tokens to do mathematical operations

  7. on all the data that we have. So we devised an approach where the agent always goes

  8. through those data set APIs that you can define, and this way we use the

  9. deterministic capacity of Board to do the calculation.

  10. The reasoning on it and the narrative around it is constructed by the LLM, and so

  11. that's where the probabilistic AI reasoning comes into play.

  12. The result is that you have numbers that are grounded in reality, not made up by

  13. the LLM because they come from a mathematical engine.
