North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation Embarks on BOARD Slashing Annual Budget Preparation Time from Five Months to 30 Days

Monday, 15 May 2017 - Sydney, Australia

BOARD International’s Business Intelligence, Corporate Performance Management and Predictive Analytics unified software has eliminated four months of annual budget preparation time for North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBPC), one of Australia’s largest port authorities.

Working with BOARD Partner Professional Advantage, North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation replaced its spreadsheet-based processes with the BOARD budgeting and forecasting solution. The corporation selected Professional Advantage for its consulting expertise and strong record, delivering successful enterprise-level CPM solutions

Completing the project in less than three months and just in time for the next budget cycle, BOARD has replaced NQBPC’s legacy Excel-spreadsheet based budgeting and forecasting platform which was increasingly unable to handle the volume or complexity of data needed to support day-to-day activities.  Until recently, managing budgeting and forecasting processes dominated the finance team’s schedule, leaving little time for providing quality business support or forecast growth.

BOARD now handles all aspects of NQBC’s budgeting, forecasting and analysis and has replaced the need for large file directories containing spreadsheet versions with one holistic source of truth for all budgeting and finance data. Data is no longer locked up in spreadsheets, improving collaboration and knowledge sharing across sites.

Maintaining a high level of performance, BOARD’s feature functionality will be able to seamlessly scale with the organisation’s growth, allow for rolling forecasts and long-term planning, and provide budgeting variances across key drivers, incorporating a variety of commodities and key suppliers.

Deployed throughout the organisation, BOARD is now trusted to manage an asset base worth half a billion dollars while rolling monthly forecasts help managers quickly identify variances and adapt strategies to respond to changing circumstances.

"One of the key reasons for choosing BOARD was the fact that the platform can change with the organisation relatively easily and without incurring a lot of cost.  BOARD was delivered on time as promised and has achieved our business objectives," said Santosh Mathew, Reporting Manager, NQBPC.

NQBPC is one of Australia’s largest port authorities by tonnage throughput and more than half of Queensland’s trade, by tonnage, passes through its ports at Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point and Weipa.  The corporation’s facilities play a vital role in Australia’s import and export success.

BOARD Australia Managing Director, Mark Sands, said, “We are delighted that BOARD is being used across NQBPC and is able to support the organisation’s diverse operations and future business requirements.  At the same time, we have absolute confidence in BOARD’s capacity to support their growth moving forward with a CPM solution whose underlying technology has been successfully deployed for leading organisations around the world.”
