Lugano, Switzerland, March [Date], 2009 – BOARD International, the leading global provider of Business Intelligence (BI) and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) toolkit software, has been recognized for the fourth time by its users to deliver real technology and business benefits in The BI Survey 8, by Nigel Pendse.

The survey, the largest independent survey for BI products worldwide, was conducted across 60 countries, and analyzes data from 2622 respondents (1894 users, 256 consultants and 472 vendors). It places BOARD ahead of established brands such as SAP, IBM, Microsoft and MicroStrategy in many key areas for the fourth time in a row.

BOARD users report the fewest problems overall compared to the users of other tools. This result refers to the total sum of data, people and technical problems which are the main sources for problems when companies use software.

The global survey highlights that BOARD users enjoy the second highest overall Business Benefit, compared to users of other tools. The overall Business Benefit Index in the survey consists of the following criteria:

    • Better business decisions through more thorough or timely analysis
    • Faster or more accurate reporting
    • Increased revenues through better sales and marketing analysis
    • Improved customer satisfaction through enhanced product quality and/or service levels
    • Saved headcount in business departments
    • Saved headcount in IS
    • Reduced external IT costs
    • Saved other non-IT costs
    • Other

Ease-of-use for end-users was cited by 46 per cent of BOARD customers as a reason for buying, with ease-of-use for application builders coming in at 35 per cent. The latter placed BOARD at the top of all solutions in this category. According to the participants of this study, these two mentioned criteria are two of the most important ones to choose a Business Intelligence solution.

This reflects BOARD’s programming-free toolkit approach that enables an easy and uncomplicated use of the software in most diverse company departments. Individual requirements can be realized with this product quickly and without big efforts,” explains Dr. Carsten Bange, managing director at the BARC Institute.

BOARD was the top product for the least human resources involved in running and administering BI projects, achieving a median of only 0.5 people which was the lowest number compared with all BI tools in the survey. The easy handling and maintenance of BOARD is further emphasized by the fact, that one single administrator can typically handle almost twice as many applications (a median of 8.2 applications) compared to the second best product in this category which has a median of 4.9 applications per administrator.

With all of those capabilities summarized, it becomes clear why BOARD is one of the top tools to be chosen (85.4 per cent selection rate). “Once customers know BOARD - they want it,” adds Giovanni Grossi, CEO at BOARD International. “BOARD’s concept of one single integrated platform with MOLAP, ROLAP and all BI and CPM functions integrated for pervasive reporting, analysis, planning and simulation applications is proved right when we see the feedback of The BI Surveys from the last years.”

Nigel Pendse, independent analyst and author of The BI Survey 8, said: “BOARD’s consistent high ranking positions in many of the key areas we analysed in the survey is a very credible achievement and isn’t just limited to technical aspects, such as fewest total problems per site. BOARD also performed very well with regard to the key business measure, the business benefit index (BBI), but also rates of conversion from evaluation, which emphasizes again the solid strength of the product in a wide range of areas.”
